My name is Shaun Heath and I am originally from upstate New York. I grew up with a love of sports and being outdoors. I played basketball throughout high school and mountain biked with my Dad every chance I could get. Knowing that I didn’t want to stay in New York, I enlisted in the Army in 2004 and was stationed at Fort Campbell.
Throughout my time in the Army, I remained in what I thought was “good shape” with doing PT and typical gym exercises. In 2009, I left the Army and became a police officer in Nashville. I continued cycling and running and eventually began to suffer from knee and back pain.
In the winter of 2012 I had to go to physical therapy because my back bothered me so much. There, the therapist told me that I needed to strengthen the muscles in and around my back and knee. While looking for something different to stay in shape without aggravating my injuries, my sister-in-law started talking about CrossFit. Her intense love for it peaked my interest. It wasn’t until 6 months later that I decided to try it.
When I started CrossFit, I committed myself to stick with it for at least 6 months no matter what. It only took completing a few WODs (and much less knee and back pain) to have me completely hooked. I began developing a passion for the sport that eventually lead me to my CrossFit and Weightlifting Level 1 Certifications. I love that I continuously learn and grow while practicing this sport.
I am blessed to have a family that shares my love for CrossFit. My wife, Elizabeth Heath, and sister-in-law, Sarah Bracy, are my biggest accountability partners and motivators. I hope that my passion for the sport can help influence others to achieve goals they never thought imaginable.
