I’m Cody Grisham. I was born and raised right here in Clarksville, by two of the greatest people on this earth. I’ve loved physical activity, especially outdoors, for as far back as I can remember. One of my fondest memories is doing pullups at East Montgomery Elementary, as a kid, for field day. From baseball, soccer, and football in my youth, to Track and Field in high school, I guess you could say movement is my thing. When I see something I want to get good at, I do what is necessary to become good at it. Mid way through highschool, I became very interested in parkour/freerunning. I started a team and after a quick year, became affiliated with the World Freerunning and Parkour Federation. About this time, I had also fallen heavily into weight training and worked out religiously. I worked mostly with isolation type movements and heavy heavy weights. Of course, as an athletic teen male, I wanted to be “ripped” or “huge”, so I did what I thought necessary to accomplish that, but to no avail. I continued my self-made weight training programs all the way up until just shy of a year ago. June of 2013, I made the decision to stop using all weights completely. Sounds crazy, huh? I know. I focused so much time into trying to build my body, but was not happy with the results. So, I decided to switch things up a bit and start striving harder to build my strength, rather, and let my body build itself along the way.
I stumbled upon a discipline known as “calisthenics”, which is really just a fancy way of saying “bodyweight excercises”. Since then, I dove in head first, literally (handstands), and have been more than determined to “master my body”, ever since. Calisthenics focuses on two natural tools. Your body and gravity. From there it’s all about control, balance, and determination. Sounds easy enough, right?
Don’t worry, though. I’m not here to convince you to drop weights, I’m just here to show you how tough it can be without them! Honestly, I’m just glad to be here and feel that I, myself, grow immensely with every person I help. Whether you want to become a human flag, be the fittest on earth, an olympic sprinter, a mom…. yes, a MOM, or just simply want a stronger core, calisthenics will help you. I can’t wait to show you how!
