Oly for Organs and Run for Life 5K Event
My name is Spencer Shimon and I’ve been an athlete at CrossFit SolaFide since June of 2012. Just like the majority of other athletes at the Box I can honestly say that CrossFit SolaFide has changed my life. I have always been a sports enthusiast but getting myself to stick to a workout program was hard as I tend to get bored very easily. When my wife and I went through On Ramp I was immediately hooked! CrossFit not only has an ever-changing workout program but it also gives me the team and competitive atmosphere that I love. CrossFit SolaFide is truly a family that supports its athletes and the community. The upcoming Run for Life 5K and Oly for Organs Event is yet another example of one of the great events that is a common place for the CrossFit community. Its the opportunity to give back to the community and educate people for a great cause. Organ donation is not something that most people like to think about or talk about because of the fear associated with and the uncomfortable nature of talking about death.
Organ donation is very important to myself and my family. We have experienced the tragedy of losing a loved one. My younger brother Austin Shimon who was 20, was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2009. Because of my brothers decision to be an organ donor he was able to help over a dozen people. We have had the opportunity to meet several of his organ recipients and continue to be in contact with them through letters and social media. I will be sharing Austin’s story this Saturday at the Run for Life 5K and Oly for Organs Event. I encourage you to come out and partcipate, cheer on our athletes, and be a part of something that literally saves lives! Hope to see everyone this Saturday May 18th 9am-12 Noon for this great event.
