I am from Omaha, Nebraska where I played football, baseball, and basketball. Following High School I got into powerlifting with a goal of getting as big as possible. I enlisted into the U.S. Military and continued my quest to lift all the weight in the gym. While on my second deployment this one to Afghanistan I competed in multiple lifting competitions. I won two bench press competitions and came in second in a powerlifting competition. It is in Afghanistan where I got as big as I could. At a weight of 235 pounds able to out lift most everyone pound for pound I was in the worst shape of my life. Go Figure.
I began playing around with some CrossFit in 2010 but was not formally introduced till 2011 by a good friend of mine. I told him if my bench doesn’t go down I am in. A month later I was stronger, faster and in better shape. I WAS SOLD! I had to get involved in this community and began coaching in 2012 in San Antonio. I have been blessed to compete both as an individual and on teams. Since CrossFit I have been able to complete the Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, and multiple 5/10Ks. This was huge for me since I had previously been unable to run because of two knee surgeries.
I blessed to be married to an amazing Woman and by God’s grace have three wonderful Children ages 6, 4, and 2 (two boys and a girl). My entire family has found a home in this community. CrossFit meets each individual were they are, is universally scale-able to their needs and fitness level, and is in my opinion the best possible way to increased fitness and a healthier life.
