I grew up a military child but spent most of my years, and the place I call home, in AZ. I have always been involved in athletics starting as a child in gymnastics and soccer. I then went on to softball and competitive cheerleading in high school. Despite always being active, I struggled with my body. I battled eating disorders for the greater part of a decade before being introduced to CrossFit. A dear friend of mine introduced me to this thing called CrossFit 8 months after I had had my son. I was a doubter. She had buzzed about this exercise regime while I was pregnant but I couldn’t commit. Well there I was, back at my pre-pregnancy weight, but traditional treadmill running and chest and tri days were just not cutting it anymore. I wanted to be stronger. I wanted to get a hold on my body before I regressed into my old habits. She put me through a watered down version of the “Filthy Fifty” and my life would never be the same. I had never done these box jump things and what were wall balls? It was awesome, it took me outside my comfort zone and I was hooked. My husband got orders and we moved from Germany to Clarksville, TN and the first thing I did was research CrossFit gyms in the area. I found CrossFit Solafide and my husband signed me up for a local On Ramp class for as a birthday gift, and I have never looked back. I had no idea what my body was capable of. I had no idea that there was this community of like-minded individuals who genuinely want you to succeed; who are just as excited for your PR’s and your triumphs as you are. I used to be controlled by my food and what the scale told me, but thanks to CrossFit, I have been able to bury those habits and love myself.
I am currently pursuing my degree in Dietetics and hope to one day work with children and parents, as an RD, reforming how we teach nutrition. I live at the box and if you don’t hear us first, you will probably see me around with my crazy 4 year old, Atticus. It is a family affair of which my husband, Justin, is also a huge part of. CrossFit has brought us closer as a family and has helped us as parents to provide an example to our son. The Lord blessed me with this body and I intend to do everything I can to keep it healthy and kicking for many more years to come.
